Welcome to Our World

Incredibly simple, extremely stylish. This is our way to design and style. Our surrounding excites our senses continuously. There’s where our inspiration comes from. Our design features attention to people, contemporary elegance and functionality never divorced from emotion. We love to relate the memory of the place and its momentum in the future, the power of nostalgia applied to the pursuit of contemporaneity. We are Italians, born in Milan, living between Milan and the World. The love and empathy between us, is the engine that has shaped our life. We are food lovers, because for Italians food is not only food, travellers and passionate explorers of this world. It all began 20+ years ago and in 2012 we did found SoFarSoNear to...

Interiors & Styling

Being an interior designer means creating a bespoke ambience, taking care of every detail that reflects our client's personality and not our Ego. Each project is tailored like a dress. The good interior design is concerned with the general aspects and the individual design details, including all the decorative and stylistic elements that contribute to creating a customized environment.

We love to relate the memory of the place and its momentum in the future, the power of nostalgia applied to the pursuit of contemporaneity.

Branding

Ddesign of Branding (Brand Design) is perhaps the most difficult topic for a designer. It does not only refer to product or interiors. The starting point is a defined strategy from which to build a solid and long lasting Brand. The market has profoundly changed in recent years. Consumer clusters have become extremely fragmented during this time, looking for new values. The design has to respond to the problem identified at the beginning of the route. The quality of the project relies on a summary document, that must explain the evolution of the Brand based on the strategy. The Visual Brand Driver is an useful tool for this purpose. This is to avoid that the project is based...

Russia, Suzdal,Enchanting & Spiritual

Suzdal is UNESCO World Heritage and when we visited it in a cold and snowy day, we did understand why. We did travel from Moscow with a LADA, a 70s old stylish car en vogue in Russia until 2012 with an amazingly efficient heating system! Our driver was a silent chap wearing the typical fur hat. It takes around 4hrs to reach Suzdal, quite a trip, but we were so pleased once we got there. The place is enchanting. The people are lovely and the snow does the rest. Before visiting the convents and the kremlin, we did walk around. Some people had a stall on the street and we did buy some hand-crafted boxes. We received as gift...

Italy, Venice,Best Venetian Dishes

Venice, a place that is unique in the world. And not only because of its palaces on the Canal Grande or because of the Gondolas that invite you to a romantic trip in the Laguna. Venice and the sea around is also place to the most extraordinaries quality of fishes and crustaces. Exquisite dishes wait us every time we visit this fascinating city. Flavours that accompany our journey. Memories we bring home and that delight our palate. Even now that I'm writing about our recent culinary experience. But, not every place in Venice offers the food I'm writing about. There is an historical restaurant, hidden in a 'calle', a small street in local language, just few steps from Rialto...

Spain, Bilbao, Richard Serra & The Matter of Time

She first time I've got in contact with the impressive sculptures of Richard Serra, was at The Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao. I have to say that I still don't know if I was most fascinated by the O'Gehry creature or by the weathering steel ones from Serra. A true dilemma! American, born in the late 30s, Richard Serra  is one of the most significant artists of his generation. He has produced large-scale, site-specific sculptures that are visible all over the globe. For the Guggenheim in Bilbao, he has created a site-specific installation called The Matter of Time. The installation comprises a huge snake and  torqued ellipses all made of weathering steel. These sculptures create a dizzying, unforgettable sensation of space in motion....

Uluru The Sacred Mountain World Heritage

Uluru is the Aborigenal name for Ayers Rock, the amazing sandstone rock formation dated back millions and millions years ago in Central Australia, in the middle of nothing. To reach Uluru, it took us around 4hrs by car from Alice Springs, the nearest town. And when you get there, still from far away, you  understand why you have to go there. No photo or video can deliver the emotion you feel when you stand in front of the rock. I took this picture, because it shows how lively and spiritual Uluru is. It does not have a flat, sandy surface, as you may think looking at the images usually published in books and on the web. The...

France, Ile de Bendor Côte d’Azur Hide Away

The Côte d'Azur, France, was one of the most glamorous playgrounds on the Mediterranean Sea. Alfred Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief' features that stylish and chic atmosphere of the French Riviera at it's peak, thanks to icons like Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. One of my favourite movies. Nowadays, the Côte has lost it's magic and quite often it’s an overdeveloped victim of its own hype. Me and Luca did spend several holidays in France and the Coast. There are places where you still can breathe and feel that atmosphere of relaxed elegance. One of this is Ile de Bendor, a small island off the coast of Bandol, South of France. The 'Ile' can be reached only by boat and...

Essaouira Mogador & World Heritage

During our wanderings, we did travel through Morocco with a big old car, that we called 'al julhara', the jewel. One of my favourite places was Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Essaouira is a mid-eighteenth century fortified town, today World Heritage, in ancient times called 'Mogador'  by Phoenician. The old fortified village has narrow streets, with small shops and cafés, to discover. In small laboratories near the fortified wall, skilled artisans work briar-root wood. It is a fine wood, light brown to reddish brown, often beautifully textured. Especially used to make pipes, it is very hard, heat-resistant and does not affect the aroma of pipe tobacco smoke. As we do not smoke pipe, we did choose some decorative objects to bring...
