A zucena has always been held in the highest esteem as an Italian brand, combining formal elegance, understated luxury and an aesthetical purity in its collections, all manufactured to the highest standard. The brand was founded in 1947 by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua, who did bring together a number of collections to furnish buildings they had designed. Azucena was recently acquired by B&B Italia with the aim to preserve it’s rich Italian heritage. SoFarSoNear Studio did meet the family owning the brand few years ago. Since the start, the relationship was one of complicity and harmony of intent. The brand required a refinement, in order to re-establish its fortune in the XXI century. As designers, we were asked to work on a collection of textiles, able to respect the original design of the furniture but renovating it. The fabrics had to comply to another requirement, i.e. to fit into the specs of the hotellerie. The outcome was an elegant and stylish collection of Trevira CS flame retardant textiles, featuring geometrical patterns and different finishes, like satin, velvet and chenille.
