G abbeh is a hand-woven pile rug characterized by an abstract design that relies upon open fields of colour and playful geometry. Gabbehs are woven by tribal women and are principally used as ‘bedding blankets’ by the nomadic tribes of the Zagros Mountains of Iran. Zollanvari is an established name as a global trail-blazer in creating carpet art and distinguishes itself by a sensitive regard for the traditional way of life of the nomads and their natural environment. The literal meaning of the word 'mafrash' is sheet or table cloth and the root of the word signifies to spread, to cover, or to furnish. The Ghashgha’i nomads, living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, create these objects from a combination of old bags which combine kelim, soumak and knotted-pile weaving techniques to give a jewel-like multi-textured surface ideal for the three-dimensional objects in this collection. It will be a good reference on visual design also for interior designers, graphic designers and those who have the talent in this area. The book includes two designs from SoFarSoNear, applied on sofa and on lampshades.

R ecently, the Studio, as part of a contest, did develop three new product concepts for IRSAP, leading manufacturer of radiators. IRSAP was looking for a new family of electric radiators, consisting of a radiator for the bathroom and one for the living area, with a special focus on design, aesthetics and possibly additional functionalities.The concepts proposed by SoFarSoNear are all aimed to solve the functional aspects, but providing to the design a formal dignity. Originally, kimono was the Japanese word for clothing. But in more recent years, the word has been used to refer specifically to traditional Japanese clothing. Kimonos as we know them today came into being during the Heian period (794-1192). Striking motifs and patterns were block printed on different textiles. Style, motif, fabric, technique and color explained who you were. For example, a cherry blossom was not just a pretty design; rather, it symbolized mortal feminine beauty.
