Midas, Pure Gold, Pure Wool

A ulana is a new luxury brand for natural wool textiles that are coloured with particles of pure gold. This new innovation presented by Wools of New Zealand takes an ancient chemistry and creates colour without the use of dyes. Aulana uses fine particles of pure gold to shift light into delicate shades of grey, pink and purple. In a world that feels ever more threatening, a little diversion and distraction is attractive indeed. Movement, improvisation, surprise. This trend is expressed creatively in experimental approaches to materials, colours, products and styles. In terms of design, it is joyful and informal, sometimes extravagant. The colour palette features vibrant yellow, fuchsia and emerald green combined with faded black and sand to give a dramatic effect. Materials and finishes are visually exciting. No more soft and subtle, but glossy and iridiscent. The house is exuberant, hedonistic and reflects the importance of living in the moment.

C onceived and weaved in Italy, using only flame retardant yarns from Trevira, the fabrics designed for drapes feature a unique mix of design and touch and feel. The yarns chosen for the weaving are of different types. ‘Waffle’ brings an element of dimensionality to the fabrics. ‘Rugiada’ makes use of the new heat-shrinking Trevira yarn.
